Miguel Batista gives Mets something to think about

Miguel Batista to Chris Young: Take your time!

It’s been openly discussed that Batista is just keeping a spot in the rotation warm until Young is ready, and his first couple starts certainly didn’t do much to shift the discussion another way.

But Batista sure made a statement on Monday, throwing seven shutout innings, allowing just 4 hits and just a single walk to go with five strikeouts.

Frank Francisco coughed up a run and two hits and a walk in the bottom of the ninth, and about the only thing you can say is that he didn’t totally blow the save. Didn’t inspire much confidence.

Meanwhile, David Wright continues to play out of his mind. We’ve come to expect the batting -- .398 after going 1-for-3 with a walk – but he’s pulling out a web gem each game.

So, the 3-1 win allows the Flag of Victory to flutter proudly in the breeze again.

Of course, if Omar was still around, he would sign Bautista to a 4 year $50 million contract.
